Today we are excited to share with you information from the Tasmanian Catholic Education Office (TCEO) about the background and timelines for transition to Kindergarten - Grade 6 education at St Virgil's College, Hobart Campus.
In December 2018, Archbishop Porteous outlined an intention to phase out the provision of K-2 education for boys at St Mary’s and Mount Carmel Catholic Colleges and to advance the provision of K-6 education for boys at the St Virgil’s Hobart campus.The change in education provision recognises the long and successful history of providing quality Catholic education for boys at St Mary’s and Mount Carmel whilst also helping to manage the increasing demand for girls' only education in Hobart.Meetings between the Assistant Director (TCEO) and the Principals of St Virgil’s, St Mary’s and Mount Carmel Colleges found agreement on a transitional model to assist parents, students, and College communities to plan for change.
From 2021, St Virgil’s College Hobart Campus will accept Kinder enrolments of boys whilst Mount Carmel and St Mary’s will cease enrolling boys in Kinder. Boys enrolled at Mount Carmel and St Mary’s will be able to continue their education at these Colleges until the end of their Grade 2 year.
Key points:• 2020: Final year of kindergarten enrolment for boys at Mount Carmel and St Mary’s Colleges.• 2021: Boys can enrol in kindergarten at St Virgil’s College Hobart campus.• 2021 – 2023: Boys already enrolled at Mount Carmel and St Mary’s Colleges continue their studies at these colleges until the end of their Grade 2 year.St Virgil’s College Hobart campus will accept enrolments of boys as follows:2021: Kindergarten and Grades 3 - 6.2022: Kindergarten, Prep and Grades 3 - 6.2023: Kindergarten, Prep, Grade 1 and Grades 3 -6.2024: Kindergarten to Grade 6.
Year 7 will remain as the entry point at St Virgil’s College, Austins Ferry Campus.
